Hari Information

While attending the Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin Texas, I founded the Hill Country Hari Society. Beginning next year, we hope to start a series of lectures and kinesthetic learning workshops for acupuncture students and practitioners in need of CEU's. This style of acupuncture is different from the most common taught form of acupuncture known as Traditional Chinese Medicine. Hari is Japanese in origin, and was developed from the teachings of blind acupuncturists. This style of acupuncture is non-invasive, and employs the use of non-insertive techniques. As practitioners of Oriental Medicine, we find this most helpful for American clients who are more stressed, energetically sensitive, and children.
This style of acupuncture is very fun to use and learn, but it does take a time commitment of one weekend a month for 8 months. You cannot learn Hari in one weekend, but you can begin to grasp the essence of refined pulse taking abilities quickly. This can be a great adjunct to your diagnostic techniques, because Hari teaches us bio-feedback through the pulse.
Our teacher, Sensei Takayuki Koei Kuahara, first brought this style of acupuncture to America. He was an apprentice under Sensei Fukushima Kodo in Japan, who was the founder of the Toyo Hari Association. What does this mean? It means the teachings are less diluted from the traditional source, so the energy of Hari has remained pure and undiluted.
